Bad End to the Good Wife

What an unsatisfying ending to the Good Wife! Disappointing. One of the disappointments was the lame relationship between Alicia & Jason. Come on people! they never rose above the level of high-schoolers: oh, i don't want to admit i want him/ her, i might get hurt, i don't know what i want, playing coy back and forth so many times it was so tedious!! Ugh. When will we have an adult, healthy relationship shown on TV with decent COMMUNICATION!! Alicia did screw Diane over so deserved the slap --or at least i can see why Diane did that. I imagine it would tear the law firm asunder....but we'll never know! I hope the future will bring better, more sensible relationships. In that way, Alicia really didn't grow up that much in this series. Sigh.

Six years later (!)

Wow, I"m back after six years! SIX years! where does the time go...So much has happened. But tonight I just saw the movie, Brooklyn. Besides the fact that Brooklyn was my home for many years, and that i think of living there again...this movie brought up all kinds of thoughts and feelings about what 'home' means, the importance of family, and longing for both. Here's what it inspired: When you're a kid you think you're not important. You're inconsequential to the adults, who are very pre-occupied. You get the impression that life really begins when you grow up. At least that's how it was in my family I got the impression that family was not what's really important, that the world out there was where it was at...And so we four kids scattered to the wind. I moved 3,000 miles away for 20 years and barely looked back. Now 30+ years later I see it so differently and feel grief and longing for the family that wasn't...the family that scattered, that didn't know how to treasure each other, didn't know how to treat each other with love...and still doesn't. In "Brooklyn" the protagonist is so heart-broken to leave her native Ireland...it's always so surprising to me when people have close, fond feelings about their home and family. It's so unfamiliar to me...for many years, decades, i didn't even think that was possible. And then I hated hearing about happy families; it made me feel so bitter and sad. Now i'm more in touch with the heartbreak of it all...Maybe, in part, because i've lost so much lately...In the last three years, these deaths have occurred: Gerald (middle bother), then my dad (beloved Jack), then my best friend, my beloved Tasha. Ok, it's late now...have to go to bed. hopefully i'll be back again before another 6 years flies by!

My car was stolen!

Wow, even as I wrote those words I still can't believe it! MY car, MY car was stolen. I know, it sounds so cliche....I can't believe it happened to ME. And I mean really, if you're going to steal a car, why not steal a nicer one (no offense car, I really love you and want you to come back, whole!). I mean new, shinier...worth more money.
I had just come out of seeing the new michael moore film, you know the one on how horrid capitalism is --which i hardily concur is true.
Got to run....more later...

Yo, Washington! I'm too important to fail!

Hey Paulson and Bernake! Good news! I'm only about $20,000 in debt! I'll be an easy bailout! And no CEO golden parachute involved.

What if every American who has debt (something close to 95% of Americans?) sent an invoice to Washington! They'd be flooded....like that scene when Harry Potter is flooded by letters, i think it was his invite to the Wizard School...

Ah, I love that image! Let them hear from the people...

more to come....

Living Green: Everyone Can Do It!

Everyday we hear about the dangers of global warming, but the problem seems so big we may wonder what we can do. For many people the answer is in “living green.” But what does that mean?

Most basically it means living in a way that your impact on the environment is as minimal – and as positive – as possible. This means hundreds of small and big changes in our daily lives. It can mean driving less to reduce pollution that contributes to global warming. Or using a more fuel-efficient car, carpooling, riding a bike, or even walking. It can mean recycling, so there’s less waste in the landfills or that ends up in our oceans. It can mean building new homes using recycled materials and solar panels.

But many people are dependent on their cars to get to work and cannot afford to buy a new Prius or hybrid (car that runs partially on electricity and uses less fuel). In fact, you don’t have to own a house or a car to go green.

Here are some more simple things we can all do:

Reduce -- Use re-usable products instead of disposable ones. One example is to use a refillable water bottle instead of buying bottled water in plastic bottles. (Plus there’s evidence that plastic is bad for your health.) Or bring a canvas bag with you to the market so you don’t have to use plastic bags.
Recycle -- bottles, cans and plastics as much as possible.
Reuse – containers and plastic bags when possible.
• If you must drive, make sure your car is running efficiently. Every gallon of gas you save keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
Turn off the lights or the TV when you’re not watching. It saves electricity and reduces global warming.
Buy local. According to the National Resources Defense Council, “most produce grown in the United States travels an average of 1,500 miles before it gets sold. Trucking, shipping and flying in food from around the country and the globe takes a toll on the environment.”

If we all do our part it can add up to a global change for a cooler planet.

First entry to my new blog!

Welcome to this new blog! Here's a pic of me with my two felines friends, Zumi (the tiger stripe) and Tasha (black and white). They are both such characters. This photo was taken in my backyard when we lived in Santa Rosa.
